WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Education Transportation Department serves the community, administrators, teachers, students, parents, and school bus drivers of Jefferson County Schools; and
 
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Education Transportation Department was recognized as being one of 10 Great American Fleets for 2005 by School Bus Fleet Magazine; and
 
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Education Transportation Department has been recognized by the State Department of Education as receiving annual school bus inspections with less than one percent (1%) major deficiencies; and
 
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Education Transportation Department maintains a fleet of over 429 school buses and 35 other system vehicles; and
 
WHEREAS, Jefferson County Board of Education school buses travel over 3,741,500 miles annually; and
 
WHEREAS, Jefferson County Board of Education school buses transport over 17,936 students daily serving 56 schools:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Superintendent Phil Hammonds, Assistant Superintendent Yancey Morris, Assistant Transportation Supervisor Tico Sanchez, Mike Doss, Della Baker, Shop Foreman Jeff Snider, the school bus mechanics and drivers, and the office staff for their service to the state of Alabama and its children and does hereby commend the entire Jefferson County Board of Education Transportation Department for its many accomplishments and its dedication to public education; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its congratulations to the Jefferson County Board of Education Transportation Department for being named one of 10 Great Fleets Across America for 2005.
