WHEREAS, the Alabama Legislature during its 2007 Session approved legislation appropriating funds to be used for recruiting teachers; and
WHEREAS, these funds were appropriated for use during Fiscal Year 2008 to recruit prospective teachers for designated areas of critical need in Alabama schools; and
WHEREAS, the designated areas of critical need for Fiscal Year 2008 are the Tier I subjects of Mathematics, Special Education, General Science, and English Language Arts; and
WHEREAS, the State Superintendent of Education recommends implementation of the Alabama Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program (ATRIP) in accordance with the legislation as well as the procedures established collaboratively with the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and the Alabama Education Association:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education hereby endorses the Alabama Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program (ATRIP).
