WHEREAS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) sponsors a national program to honor outstanding middle and high school principals from across the United States and more than 45 countries; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gerald Johnson, Principal at Florence Freshman Center in the Florence City School System, was selected as Alabama’s 2007 High School Principal of the Year; and
WHEREAS, through the state selection committee, Mr. Johnson was selected based upon his outstanding leadership style of setting high standards for himself and modeling high standards for others in his day-to-day work; and
WHEREAS, under Mr. Johnson’s leadership, 100 percent of the freshmen have passed the mathematics portion of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam, and the number of freshmen passing the science portion has increased since the implementation of AMSTI; and
WHEREAS, in October of 2007, Mr. Johnson was honored along with principals from across the nation at the NASSP Principal of the Year Banquet in Washington, D.C.:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Gerald Johnson upon the honor of being selected as Alabama’s 2007 High School Principal of the Year.
