RECOGNIZING WOODSTOCK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL,
BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM,
FIRST PLACE, 2009 INTERNATIONAL THINKQUEST NARRATIVE CONTEST
ORACLE® THINKQUEST EDUCATION FOUNDATION
WHEREAS, third-graders from Bibb County's Woodstock Elementary School won First place in the 2009 International ThinkQuest Narrative Contest sponsored by the ORACLE® ThinkQuest Education Foundation; and
WHEREAS, of the six teams winning either First or Second place in all categories, there was only one other team from the United States, and Alabama's team competed with 1,200 teams from 26 countries; and
WHEREAS, Alabama's team, in collaboration with students from Brazil and India, won First place in the 15 and under division in the Narrative Competition; and
WHEREAS, the students posed the question How has rock and roll impacted today's society? and took top honors for their entry entitled "Let's Rock and Roll" in the Arts & Entertainment Category; and
WHEREAS, this competition challenges student teams to research and publish their ideas on topics of global importance and participating students develop critical 21st century skills, including teamwork and technology and communication skills; and
WHEREAS, an international panel of volunteer judges reviewed the entries and qualifying entries are published in the ThinkQuest Library, the world's largest online repository of student-developed learning projects:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend Chase Medders, Drew Smith, and Tori Treadway, Alabama's First-place team members from Woodstock Elementary School in the Bibb County School System; Coach Kristin Lightsey; Mrs. Andrea Essman, Principal; and Dr. Don Elam, Superintendent.
