COMMENDING ST. CLAIR COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM, FOR WINNING THREE NATIONAL QUILL & SCROLL INTERNATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY FOR HIGH SCHOOL JOURNALISTS 2011 YEARBOOK EXCELLENCE CONTEST AWARDS

WHEREAS, the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists was organized on April 10, 1926, at the University of Iowa by renowned pollster George H. Gallup and a group of high school advisers for the purpose of encouraging and recognizing individual student achievement in journalism and scholastic publication; and

WHEREAS, the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists annually conducts a Yearbook Excellence Contest for Quill and Scroll member schools; and

WHEREAS, St. Clair County High School is a member school of the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists and annually publishes its school yearbook entitled St. Clarion; and

WHEREAS, St. Clair County High School submitted entries for its St. Clarion yearbook for the Quill and Scroll 2011 Yearbook Excellence Contest; and

WHEREAS, in addition to winning several state awards in this competition, three St. Clair County High School students won national awards in three divisions of the Quill and Scroll 2011 Yearbook Excellence Contest, Class B (749 students or less): Allison Roberts (Graphics, Classes Section Division); Katie McGaha (Graphics, Club Section Division); and Elizabeth Westerfield (People Division); and

WHEREAS, the State Superintendent of Education recommends approval:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend the St. Clair County Board of Education Superintendent Edith (Jenny) Seals, the St. Clair County High School Principal Brian L. Terry, and the St. Clair County High School Teacher/Yearbook Advisor Mary Morrow for their support of Allison Roberts, Katie McGaha, and Elizabeth Westerfield, the creative and talented students from St. Clair County High School who were recognized nationally by the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists in the 2011 Yearbook Excellence Contest.
