RESOLUTION COMMENDING MINJYE CHEN, AUBURN HIGH SCHOOL (AUBURN CITY SCHOOLS), ALABAMA’S 2001 ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) STATE SCHOLAR
WHEREAS, the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) State Scholar Awards are awarded annually; and
WHEREAS, this is the eleventh annual granting of the AP State Scholar Awards; and
WHEREAS, the Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school; and
WHEREAS, the Advanced Placement Program also offers students the opportunity to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the end-of-course AP Exams; and
WHEREAS, the AP State Scholar Awards are earned by students with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of exams (at least three full-year course exams or the equivalent) and the highest average grade (at least 3.5) on all AP exams taken; and
WHEREAS, over 840,000 high school students worldwide took more than 1,414,000 AP exams in 2001; and
WHEREAS, on almost two-thirds of these exams, students received grades that qualified for credit, advanced placement, or both, granted by colleges and universities worldwide; and
WHEREAS, there are 105 students nationwide who received 2001 AP Scholar Awards; and
WHEREAS, there are two Alabama recipients of the 2001 AP State Scholar Awards:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education commends Minjye Chen, Auburn High School, Auburn, as a 2001 AP State Scholar, one of two students in the entire state to receive this honor in recognition of college-level achievement on Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations.
