WHEREAS, Sam and Leslie Faucett donated $1 million to the Tuscaloosa County school system; and
 
WHEREAS, this sum is the largest single contribution by a private citizen in the 125-year history of the Tuscaloosa County school system; and
 
WHEREAS, this donation will yield $980,000 toward the construction of a new Tuscaloosa County High School and $20,000 to improve the Vestavia Elementary School library; and
 
WHEREAS, this donation was made in memory of Mr. Faucett’s father, Sam P. “Bill” Faucett Jr., and in honor of Mr. Faucett’s mother, Gwendolyn Faucett; and
 
WHEREAS, this gift has been called “a motivator for all citizens who want to make a positive difference for the children served by the Tuscaloosa County school system”:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That Sandra Ray, board member from District 7, and the other members of the Alabama State Board of Education do hereby commend Sam and Leslie Faucett for their unselfish generosity to the Tuscaloosa County Schools.
