RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER AS ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH
WHEREAS, National Arts and Humanities Month is a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America; and
WHEREAS, it is coordinated by Americans for the Arts and has become the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation; and
WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country as well as by the White House and Congress since 1993; and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind; and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American; and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities play a unique role in the lives of our families, our communities, and our country; and
WHEREAS, it has been suggested that the arts help close the achievement gap, improve the academic skills essential for reading and language development, build strong mathematical skills, advance the motivation to learn, and promote positive social development:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby proclaim October as “National Arts and Humanities Month” in Alabama public schools and calls upon our faculty and students to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in our nation school.
