At the April 14 Alabama State Board of Education meeting, Dr. Philip Cleveland was appointed as Interim State Superintendent of Education. 

"I am honored to serve at the pleasure of the State Board of Education as the interim superintendent. My focus will be improving efficiency in state government and providing increased support for K-12 children of our great state," said Dr. Cleveland.

An application with ​information related to the search for a permanent superintendent will be posted by April 18 and applications are to be received by June 7, 2016.
