WHEREAS, Mary B. Austin Elementary School in the Mobile County School System has been selected as a 2006 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, the No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program was announced in 2002 to honor schools that reflect the national education reform goals for high standards and accountability; and

WHEREAS, the No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement; and

WHEREAS, only 200 public schools have been selected nationwide:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend the faculty, staff, students, and parents of Mary B. Austin Elementary School on achieving the status of a U.S. Department of Education No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School.
