WHEREAS, in Alabama January is celebrated as School Board Member Recognition Month, as sponsored by the Alabama Association of School Boards; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, under the leadership of local boards of education, public elementary and secondary education in Alabama improved using Alabama’s new accountability system to comply with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) as approved by the Alabama State Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, local boards of education provided assistance in meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) accountability goals and maintaining the lowest projected dropout rate in the state’s history; and
WHEREAS, local board of education members work with the members of the Alabama State Board of Education and play an important role in implementing successful programs and higher standards for Alabama’s students; and
WHEREAS, these accomplishments in conjunction with successful planning and vision have Alabama’s schools poised for even greater strides in the future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education commends and expresses its sincere appreciation to local board of education members for their outstanding devotion and dedication to the students, parents, and citizens of our state; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education wholeheartedly supports the designation of January as School Board Member Recognition Month.
