WHEREAS, Career/Technical Education is recognized as a viable option/choice for students in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the State Board of Education appointed an Apprenticeship Committee to study issues relating to Career/Technical Education in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the committee was divided into subcommittees and charged with delivering recommendations to the Board regarding:
apprenticeship for high school programs
promotion of career academies and magnet schools
advanced career/technical endorsements and career/technical endorsements for the state graduation diploma
required career/technical coursework for all graduates; and
WHEREAS, the committee has put forth the following recommendations:
apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs should be established and be managed through existing cooperative education programs in Alabam's high schools
career academies and magnet schools should be promoted as a delivery system for career majors with the associated academic requirements
the structure should be provided for endorsements on the state graduation diploma in the areas of Advanced Academic, Advanced Career/Technical Education, and Career/Technical Education
continue the requirement that all students take a minimum of a computer applications course as a part of the state requirements for high school graduation; and
WHEREAS, the committee has worked diligently and has functioned in an exemplary manner; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education commends the Apprenticeship Committee for their dedication to the students of Alabama and their commitment to the task assigned:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Alabama State Board of Education, do hereby adopt and support the aforementioned parts of the report of the Apprenticeship Committee and endorse the implementation of the recommendations contained herein.
