ADOPTED RESOLUTION ENDORSING ALABAMA SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK
WHEREAS, more than 60 percent of Alabama’s elementary and secondary students are transported to and from school each day of the school year; and
WHEREAS, the safety of these students is of utmost importance to this Board and to all citizens of the state; and
WHEREAS, the 15,000 bus drivers who transport these students to school and home again on some 7,400 buses daily travel more than 58 million miles each year and have achieved an enviable safety record; and
WHEREAS, Gov. Fob James, Jr. has proclaimed the week of Oct. 15 - 21, 1995, as Alabama School Bus Safety Week:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby endorse Oct. 15 - 21, 1995, as Alabama School Bus Safety Week and urges all Alabamians, particularly motorists, to be especially cautious where school buses and schoolchildren are involved; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education calls on every citizen of Alabama to make every week a safe one for the students of our state.
