RESOLUTION COMMENDING ANITA L. KELLY, ESQ. FOR DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education recognizes the outstanding contributions of its employees; and
WHEREAS, Anita L. Kelly, Esq. serves as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Alabama assigned to the Alabama Department of Education and is responsible for litigation in the areas of special education and access to educational opportunities in schools; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kelly has worked closely on the development of and compliance with Alabama’s Special Education Consent Decree (Lee v. Macon) and, through her dedicated efforts, this Decree has been highlighted in educational journals and newspapers, and was approved by the State Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting on November 18, 2004; and
WHEREAS, she has served as an associate with the law firm of Thomas, Means, and Gillis, P.C. and further, her concentration was employment law with emphasis on Title VII litigation; and
WHEREAS, she served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable U. W. Clemon of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kelly was elected the first female president of the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers’ Association and also served as vice president and secretary of that organization, is a member of Class XVII of Leadership Montgomery, and serves on various other boards:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That upon her departure from the Alabama Department of Education, the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend Anita L. Kelly, Esq. for her dedicated service to the Department of Education and the students and citizens of Alabama.
