Who do I contact for a criminal background check and how much does it cost?
Fees are required for the completion of the criminal history background check: For fee information or to register for the criminal history background check, go to www.cogentid.com/AL or call (866) 989-9316 (toll free). DO NOT SEND FINGERPRINT CARDS/FEES TO THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. Effective June 15, 2009, the ALSDE no longer accepts fingerprint cards or fingerprint fees.
Is the information received by the State Department of Education from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation kept confidential?
Yes, this law requires that any criminal history background information reports shall be confidential and “not further disclosed or made available for public inspection.” Further, these reports are specifically excluded from any requirement of public disclosure as a public record.
Will criminal convictions of all types crimes justify a determination of non-suitability?
