"The often-used cliche' 'Our children are our future' communicates an obvious but critical truth. When I first decided to be a candidate for the State Board of Education, I was worried about what I saw in our future. Disrespect for authority, an inability to think logically, falling test scores and failed fad after fad in teaching theory were the scenes that I viewed in many our schools. Our children and our future were the victims. This State Board of Education has acted in each of these areas to move the education of our children and our future as Alabamians in a positive, forward direction."
