The History Teacher of the Year Program, administered by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, recognizes outstanding American History teachers from elementary through high school across the country. Eligibility for elementary and secondary applicants alternates yearly. A state committee selects a state winner who will receive $1,000 and a certificate. The winner's school also receives an archive of historical documents, named in honor of the teacher, to be used in the library or resource centers. The state level winner's name will be submitted for national competition and an opportunity to win $10,000.
