Description

Every year, fires and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Firefighters and emergency services workers help protect the public against these dangers by rapidly responding to a variety of emergencies. They are frequently the first emergency personnel at the scene of a traffic accident or medical emergency and may be called upon to put out a fire, treat injuries or perform other vital functions.  The Emergency and Fire Management Services curriculum is designed to provide individuals with the principles, theory, and practices associated with state-of-the-art fire science and management, including issues related to tactical fire operations, fire safety, firefighting and emergency services leadership and management, and community fire issues.  Students expand their thinking beyond fire-specific issues in areas related to firefighting through coursework in human resource management, administration, homeland security and emergency/disaster management, fire protection services, safety and prevention, and investigation. This curriculum is designed to meet the needs of professional and volunteer fire service personnel and those seeking employment in the fire and emergency services.
