RESOLUTION COMMENDING HUEYTOWN HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL DIRECTOR JIM SCHAEFFER FOR BEING SELECTED AS THE ALABAMA MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION OUTSTANDING YOUNG MUSIC EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, the Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA), a federated state affiliate of the National Association for Music Education (NAME), promotes the advancement of music education through professional development, curricular support, and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the AMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year Award honors young members who have shown a special dedication to and enthusiasm for music education in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, this award also recognizes innovative leaders who set high standards for music education and offer inspiration and direction, demonstrate professional and academic growth as music educators, and display enthusiasm for teaching and love of music; and
WHEREAS, Jim Schaeffer is the Director of Choral Activities at Hueytown High School, is the Lead Mentor representative for Hueytown High School, serves as treasurer and webmaster for the Alabama Choral Directors Association, and is an active member of the Birmingham Chamber Chorus; and
WHEREAS, Jim Schaeffer has been instrumental in leading and developing all five of Hueytown High School’s choirs – Women's Choir, Men's Choir, Women's Honor Choir, Concert Choir, and Chamber Choir – which all consistently receive excellent and/or superior ratings at both district and state performance evaluations; and
WHEREAS, Jim Schaeffer’s contributions to music education inside and outside of the classroom have resulted in him being selected as the AMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Jim Schaeffer will be honored along with other AMEA award recipients at the Association’s In-Service Conference in January at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education hereby congratulates Jim Schaeffer on his selection as the AMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year.
