RESOLUTION TO MODIFY GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education has as its vision that every child graduate prepared for college, work, and adulthood in the 21st century; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education and the Alabama State Department of Education recognize the necessity for a meaningful student assessment program that meets the instructional needs of our schools and our state; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education and the Alabama State Department of Education desire to make the student assessment program as efficient and instructionally meaningful as possible for all students; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education has established high academic standards for all students as a priority; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education has implemented the Alabama College- and Career-Ready Standards and has adopted assessments aligned with these standards:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby accept and adopt the proposal to remove the Alabama High School Graduation Exam as a diploma requirement for students who were first-time ninth graders in or after 2010-2011 with implementation to begin immediately.
