The ALSDE has earned a Turnaround School Leaders Program (TSLP) grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. PACT, Project Alabama Consortium for Turnaround, is one of only twelve TSLP grants awarded across the nation, and was created to address rural Alabama school districts' need for highly qualified administrators. PACT is unique because of its collaborative partnership between the ALSDE, the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS), the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Samford University, Edwards Educational Services, Inc. and Cash Educational Consulting Services.
PACT has a two-pronged approach: (1) to provide a program of study and professional development for identified aspiring school leaders who have the potential to become highly effective school administrators and visionary turnaround specialists; (2) to provide individual assessment and targeted professional development to currently licensed school leaders. Moreover, the ALSDE is developing a Turnaround Instructional Leader Credential for those completing the PACT program. Currently, 50 participants are enrolled in this three year endeavor.
